Mesh allows a new approach to architectural security systems, an approach that permits a lighter look, for a more aesthetically pleasing and inviting structure. Where once heavy steel bars were specified for window protection, an attractive and bright architectural mesh system now provides a certified personnel entry barrier.
It is clear today that any government building can be an attack target, yet it may not be desirable to design every building to appear heavily protected. A lighter touch can help make building occupants more comfortable and visitors more welcome. And, if a softer look belies a more robust defense, then the architect has achieved the best of both worlds.
Mesh defense systems are engineered and crafted to meet the standard established by the Department of State to resist forced entry into doors and windows as outlined in SD-STD-01.01. Revision G, dated April 30, 1993. These systems are designed to meet or exceed the 5 minute protection level in the stand.
