Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is one of only ten pediatric hospitals in the United States to be ranked on the Honor Roll of U.S. News and World Report's 2009 edition of America's Best Children's Hospitals. As the organization continues to grow, so does its campus. To meet the needs of this growth and match the quality of its facilities with the quality of its care, CCH has employed the most dynamic of architectural elements for all new construction.
A curved, intersecting architectural metal fabric system from Cambridge – the first-ever application of both longitudinal and latitudinal curved mesh – uniquely adorns the exterior of CCH's new parking facility, creating a modern and innovative basket weave facade befitting of a world-class institution.
CCH Medical Center's mesh solution was designed primarily for safety purposes. Cambridge mesh has an openness ratio that allows it to function as a secure fall protection barrier while remaining transparent enough to allow views into the well-lit garage deck at night, an important safety consideration for most parking facilities.
The mesh system was created with Cambridge's patented Eclipse™ attachment hardware – a stainless tension attachment that grips and holds metal fabric in tension at the top and bottom of a panel. The hardware does not require embedded supports and allows large panels of mesh to be installed at one time, dramatically cutting down on project costs. Stainless steel metal fabric is also unparalleled in durability, especially in heavily used, high-traffic areas like parking garages.
All materials used in for the mesh system are engineered to last a lifetime with minimal maintenance. Cambridge mesh was chosen for CCH Medical Center because it is unfazed by the harsh winters and warm, humid summers of the Cincinnati climate.
Cambridge Architectural is an active member of the USGBC®, and helps architects take maximum advantage of LEED credit through the many categories in which architectural mesh systems apply.
