Western Oregon University Health and Wellness Center
The Health and Wellness Center project at the University of Western Oregon included renovation of the Old Physical Educational (OPE) building and an addition of nearly 80,000 square feet of academic, recreational and athletic space. A new exterior facade was designed which incorporated vertical stainless steel mesh shading panels mounted perpendicular to the glazing over the front building entrance.
The architectural mesh was attached top and bottom to angle brackets which were secured to the building structure with special spring-loaded eyebolt hardware. The mesh panels were designed to provide solar shading during the day but allow 100% transparency into the facility at night.
The project achieved LEED Gold certification in part due to the improved exterior thermal performance facilitated by the stainless steel mesh shading panels and their long life cycle.
