Champlain U.S. Land Port of Entry
Champlain, New York | Etched Sign and Façade Cladding
The first thing travelers see at the Champlain border crossing is a beautiful etched metal fabric with the words “United States of America.” The 10-lane-wide expanse appears above inspection booths and the word “Champlain” outfits a nearby two-story cargo processing facility. A mesh shading system also modernizes the port of entry’s commercial processing building.
"A slight rise in the roadway contributes to the dynamic unfolding of both words and horizon as visitors slow for inspection. The sign’s transparency and its purposeful openness allude to the ideas of an open and democratic society founded in an Arcadian landscape."
